I have long joked that the reason Jesus hasn't returned is that he has no church to return to. Many local churches are content if people show up, tithe, and give to special missions. Unlike the early church which drew critics' admiration with their charity, the militant evangelical right embarrasses the church publicly. Nor do modern Christians expect Jesus' return to herald the manifestation of the kingdom into this reality, instead embracing a hazy vision of clouds of angels somewhere out in space.
So glad I could see this session. Hoping to be at the live Q&A next Tuesday morning.

This is a message we can't ignore.
The dream of the prophet Isaiah is fulfilled IN OUR HEARING.
I was not given a staff
that turns into a snake,
only a voice too lovely
to Iive inside any book
who fills my heart
with the nectar of
heaven which makes
me want to tell the
whole world like
a woman who found
living water at her
local well, but the world
is too invested in its
established stories
to believe the word
of a fool whose
only magic is to
obey the song that
writes itself into
my heart since
the only reason
anyone shares poetry
is to get famous.
